History
Historical review
The history of our unit dates to the creation of the Technical Pedagogical Institute on 17 May 1994, whose mission was to train teachers for professional education in Chile. Afterwards, in 1975, the University Decree No. 1728 established the organization of the State Technical University. According to the document, the Faculty of General Studies (current Faculty of Humanities) would host the Department of Languages. Then, in 1998, Resolution No. 1343 changed its name to the current Department of Linguistics and Literature (DLL).
The following is a chronology of every Department Director since 1973. In addition, our emeritus professors, retired lecturers and staff are also recognized down below. Lastly, we would like to remember the members of our community that have passed away. This work was made possible with the help of student Valentina Valenzuela, who, as part of her Initial Internship, helped us reconstruct the history of the unit thanks to valuable contributions from our retired lecturers.
