On Monday August 1st, in the Mathematics Auditorium, an important event gathered academics, University Staff and family members to remember the career of three retired colleagues. Now, they pass on their life full of memories and dedication for the Universidad de Santiago de Chile and, particularly, their home: the Department of Linguistics and Literature.
This recognition and farewell ceremony for Professor Marcela Orellana and University Staff, Mr. Miguel Palma and Mr. Marcos Guerrero, was filled with emotions and memories. The event started with the University hymn, then our Dean Dr. Cristina Moyano gave some moving words, followed by the speeches of both Dr. Néstor Singer and Dr. Manuel Rubio, whose emotional messages made clear how this group of people left an everlasting mark through constant work and efforts.
For this situation, a special function was organized by Orquesta Bicentenario Monseñor Luis Arturo Pérez. Afterwards, the ceremony started giving special recognitio for their outstanding working career, commitment, companionship, dedication, and support during their years of service in the Department of Linguistics and Literature.
Dr. Marcela Orellana gave some moving words of gratitude for her academic career, remembering our dear Dr. Víctor Martínez for all his support and characteristic management capacity.
It is a privilege for our Department to be able to perform ceremonies where we can pay tribute and recognize the career an professionalism of our staff. The Management Team also projected a video with personal greetings from academics, friends and relatives who wanted to give some words of farewell. With those emotional greetings showing all the affection and bonds that they have built during their years of service, the ceremony came to an end with a cocktail at Pavilion B in our Department.
